Gramer Interconnection

Project Summary

To improve the reliability of high-voltage electrical service in southeastern Michigan, ITC Michigan, through its ITCTransmission subsidiary, along with DTE, will build a new substation – named Gramer – in Lenox Township. It will connect to the  existing Jewell – St. Clair 120,000-volt (120 kV) transmission line via approximately four miles of new transmission line. The Gramer substation will be constructed north of 30 Mile Road and west of Gramer Rd.

The substation targeted construction start is late Q2 2024. The line construction began Q1 2024. Project targeted completion is late Q4 2024.

Projects are assessed individually for safety, reliability, cost-effectiveness, along with environmental and community impacts, to determine the best transmission solution for each project.

The Gramer Substation Project is an example of ITC’s ongoing commitment to the operational efficiency and reliability of Michigan’s high-voltage transmission grid. The company has invested $7 billion in capital project maintenance and transmission infrastructure improvements in Michigan since 2003. These investments are improving the reliability and safety of the transmission infrastructure while ensuring its ability to meet new energy demands.
