A Message From Charles Marshall, Vice President, ITC Holdings Corp. and President, ITC Michigan

On behalf of the ITC team, I hope you’ve had a great start to 2025! I’d like to kick things off by introducing myself as the new president of ITC Michigan. I took on this role in December 2024. I’m an engineer by trade, and at heart, and a life-long Michigander and I’m thrilled to apply my 20+ years of experience at ITC and my dedication to providing our great state with safe and reliable energy in this new chapter.
I look forward to navigating Michigan’s changing energy landscape with ITC stakeholders and partners and getting to know you better.
We’ve hit the ground running in 2025, focused on our work tied to MISO’s Long Range Transmission Planning (LRTP) projects. The LRTP projects are part of a holistic plan to deliver reliable, cost-effective energy to Michigan businesses, communities and residents. These projects will deliver significant economic benefits to local economies and has the potential to attract new businesses, including data centers to support the growth of AI. The top-tier reliability performance of ITC’s transmission system has been integral with supporting the state’s business development efforts.
Contrary to the widespread misconception, the need to upgrade our grid is not solely a result of the green energy transition. Rather, the ability to sustain our increased dependence on reliable electricity cannot be supported with transmission infrastructure built in the early 1900s. At the same time, we are asking more from our grid than we ever have before, and certainly more than it was designed to do. Add to this the need to support onshoring and emerging technologies, such as AI and cloud computing, which is causing rapid load growth. We never truly recognize how much we rely on electricity – until the power goes out. At a minimum, ITC is committed to making sure the lights go on, and stay on, effortlessly and efficiently.
As an industry, we must be proactive in tackling these challenges. Given the long runway of transmission development, it is crucial that we have adequate timelines and stable policies to execute our projects. Failing to act is not an option. Transmission plays a role in nearly every aspect of daily life, for the past 22 years, ITC has been a local partner to our Michigan utilities and communities and we’re continuing to uphold this commitment to delivering safe and reliable energy– no matter what the energy landscape brings.
With a clear vision, goal and plan, our team is looking forward to another productive year of progress. Thank you for your continued partnership and trust.
