Johnson Substation

This substation was built to upgrade the existing system in the North Liberty and Coralville areas, as these areas experience growth.

Project Summary

The Johnson 345/161/69 kV Substation was completed in early 2021. This substation was built to upgrade the existing system in the North Liberty and Coralville areas. As these areas continue to see an increase in load growth, this substation, along with other system upgrades, will support existing and future growth.

The Johnson Substation is a joint project between ITC Midwest and Central Iowa Power Cooperative (CIPCO), where ITC Midwest owns the 345 and 161 kV portions of the substation and CIPCO owns the 69 kV portion of the substation. This substation project was developed as part of the larger area plans for the Cedar Rapids-Iowa City Corridor area after joint system planning between ITC Midwest and CIPCO with input from Alliant Energy and Linn County REC.
